Scott MacInnis called it a "witch hunt" from the very beginning, saying a local Oak Bay newspaper used dubious evidence to accuse him of doping. Speculating on where these dubious charges may have originated, Scott simply said: "some of my fellow bike club members have on occassion expressed some discomfort with my racing success' but he quickly added "but I'm not accussing Mike"!
