Next torture event: (this is just a reminder)
Re: Leech town ride? - July 3
OK men-(AND WOMEN) of-steel, are we on for Monday July 3? I propose we meet at My chosen cafe parking lot at 9 a.m (see how civilized this is), with your oldest heaviest mountain bike, and a packed lunch/water. We can stop and have a lunch on the trail, then be back for an early supper or drink at My chosen cafe on return. There's a school parking lot not far from my chosen cafe where we can elave cars. I reckon it's a waste of time biking all the way from town, so starting along the goose this way is best. Lee Ann and I have almost made it to Leech town before ( I think we either didn't do quite far enough or missed a turn). If the weather looks bad, let's can it, but let me know by return e-mail if you are likely to come out for this. Thanks,
Pierre

bike fit info:
Pierre:
Here are some bicycle links, as per our conversation last night.
1. This is a pretty good fit calculator. Others are also available, but I like this one because it provides a range of fit options.
http://www.competitivecyclist.com/za/CCY?PAGE=FIT_CALCULATOR_INTRO
2. This is a link to the bikes that my brother and I purchased. As you can see, this seller has a range of road bikes at very good prices. However, their responsiveness to our communiques has been variable. I will let you know about our overall experience with them, after we actually have the bikes.
http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/lechamp05_slRBR.htm
3. This a very highly rated online retailer. A little more expensive, but from what I've heard, a very responsive, very ethical person.
http://www.gvhbikes.com/
4. This website has a ton of information, including classified ads and reviews on road bikes and components. I'm sure some of the reviews are "plants", and some of the ads are scams, but many are legitimate.

upcoming events:
Men:
As you know, the 2006 Tour de France starts in Strasbourg on Saturday, 1 July.
You are all invited to the traditional prologue breakfast that day at my place while watching the Kaiser, Jan Ullrich, tromp the bejeesus out of that effete little choir boy, Ivan Basso. Because the first stage is in Strasbourg, I guess that breakfast will have to be something like foie gras, sauerkraut, and beer.
Afterward, we can all go for a lovely mind-clearing ride, and hopefully not vomit.
Cheers,
M

Here is the website for the Cowichan Valley Charity Ride I told you about tonight. The dates are 12-13 August, so that fits in with the schedule we were discussing.

There are both one and two-day ride options. $55 to sign up for the two day option, providing you arrange a minimum pledge amount.

A biker was riding along a California beach when suddenly the sky clouded
above his head and, in a booming voice, the Lord said, 'Because you have
tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish.'
The biker pulled over and said, 'Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over
anytime I want. 'The Lord said, 'your request is materialistic. Think of the
enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking. The supports required to
reach the bottom of the Pacific! The concrete and steel it would take! It
will nearly exhaust several natural resources. I can do it, but it is hard
for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time
and think of something that would honor and glorify me.'
The biker thought about it for a long time. Finally he said, 'Lord, I wish
that I could understand my wife. I want to know how she feels inside, what
she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what
she means when she says nothing's wrong, and how I can make a woman truly
happy.'
The Lord replied, 'You want two lanes or four on that bridge?'

Have you seen this man?
Virtual bikers are asked to look out for this man. The ride today was a classic example of his tactics. He invites people to his home for a "bike ride". He then ensures the invite goes out to hardened bikers, capable of inducing cardiac arrest in non-suspecting newbie bikers. He then DOES NOT GO ON THE RIDE HIMSELF, and leaves you to the fiends of hell (ie real bikers). Anyone having any information on his whereabouts are asked to contact Oak Bay Police.
